Responsibilities:
- Prepare and dispense specialty medication orders, maintaining and evaluating patient profiles and comprehensive drug data files to check for any incompatibilities.
- Verify all orders for completeness of information, ensuring proper patient information and physician authorization.
- Accurately verify medications as ordered by physicians, adhering to department guidelines and OSHA regulations.
- Ensure the correct preparation of all formulas and medications, check prescriptions for completeness, and calculate accurate dosages.
- Organize and direct technician workflow, verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, as well as order entries, charges, and inspections.
- Provide pharmacological information and drug counseling to healthcare professionals and patients, answering questions and addressing requests.
- Ensure adherence to all legal and professional requirements, consulting with patients to assess medication compatibility and advising on the effects of food and alcohol intake.
- Participate in pharmacy teaching and in-service programs, logging and dating all drugs in use, and checking for outdates monthly.
- Maintain accurate temperature logs and logs for protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs, assisting with inventory control and ordering supplies and medications.
- Ensure standard drug supplies are adequately stocked in all departments, preparing labels, filing, and preparing billing.
- Receive new drug education from representatives, stay up to date with new information, and maintain patient and medical staff confidentiality.
- Prepare reports and monitor activities as directed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
- State licensure as a Pharmacist in the state of practice.
- Minimum of three years of experience as a registered pharmacist, with an oncology background preferred.
